Above the water the Komodo landscape is dotted with islands and islets of every description, their volcanic bases carved by eons of ocean wear, but their crowns are distinctive and unique.
While Bali is green and tropically lush, Komodo is much drier and features grassy meadows, rocky crags with a "savanna" type feel to the landscape. Hence a perfect habitat for its most famous residents, the Komodo Dragons, the largest lizards on earth!
Sharing the islands with the dragons are exotic birds, flitting among the trees. Pigs, deer and goats graze on the lowlands and buffalo wallow in the muddy creeks of Rinca while crab eating Macaques play on the beaches.
